The film is set in the 70’s and follows Christian Cooke who plays the role of Freddie as he creates trouble with his best friends and gets drunk as a lifestyle.  In order to get out of a working class life, Freddie gets himself a job going door to door as a salesman and runs into his old love played by Felicity Jones.

Filming began on June 15th of 2009 and the film is set to be released across the UK on April 17th of this year.

Originally the film was going to be titled The Man from the Pru but the Prudential insurance did not like the way the company looked in the film and so decided not to let Gervais use their name.

Instead, the new title of the film, Cemetery Junction, comes from a road junction in the Reading district of New Town in Berkshire.cemetery-junction trailer

Gervais choose the setting of New Town for the film given that he grew up in the area in the 70s. He describes the plot line of the movie as a cross between the two hit televisions shows Mad Men and The Office.

He also has stated in interviews that the script was inspired by the lyrics to ‘Thunder Road’ by Bruce Springsteen.cemetery-junction trailer 2

Also featured in the film are Ralph Fiennes, Matthew Goode, Emily Watson, Tom Hughes, and Jack Doolan.
