Fourth Kind does not deliver the alien goods

Those who are hailing the Fourth Kind as the new Blair Witch Project and the latest documentary-cinematic thrill may be disappointed upon heading to the theaters as the only gimmick that the alien abduction film seems to be handing out is an excuse for a two hour nap.

The film stars Milla Jovovich from Resident Evil, who plays the role of Dr. Abigail Tyler a true alien abduction psychologist who specializes in treating those who have been abducted by aliens in Nome, Alaska.

It is directed and written by Olatunde Osunsanmi who attempts to mix the reenactment of therapy sessions with true footage of the actual people and Dr. Taylor.

The premise of the film is simple: it poses the question of if aliens truly do exist and abduct people by showing supposed proof that makes the possibility of the Fourth Kind closer to reality. However, the execution of the film offers nothing concrete or exciting about the potential that aliens may exist.

Throughout the film Jovovich plays her late husbands taped sessions with patients that suffer from sleep disorders, and who dream about the same symbols that she proposes are repressed memories of being abducted by aliens.

During the course of the movie the results turn violent and tragic, which turns the local Sherriff against Dr. Tyler, who believes that the obsession with alien abduction is the result of grief from her husband’s death.

Near the end of the movie, nothing is concretely decided and viewers are no closer to figuring out of the Fourth Kind really exist and if the movie was worth their time.
