Gary Marshall’s latest film attempt is packed full of Hollywood’s stars with everyone from Patrick Dempsey to Julia Roberts featured in the film and plenty of cameos from odd faces such as Queen Latifah.
Yet, despite an award winning cast, the one thing that seeing Valentine’s Day this weekend may accomplish is making you wish you had sprung for a nice dinner instead.
The lead roles of the film are taken by Jennifer Garner, Shirley MacLaine, Jessica Alba, Anne Hathaway, Julie Roberts, Patrick Dempsey, Eric Dane, Jamie Foxx, and Jessica Biel , making the other accomplishment of the film the fact that Marshall has one of the most diverse casts made of Hollywood stars and starlets yet.
However, the viewer does not get much time to really watch any of their favorite stars perform since it is too busy switching from all the title characters and attempting to give each major role some depth. The result is that you never really get to connect with any role.
The basic roles of the movie include an actress that also works as a phone sex worker played by Hathaway, a schoolteacher who is getting cheated on played by Garner, a television host played by Foxx, and a traveling flight passenger played by Roberts.
At the end of the movie the positive reflections are Biel’s outrageous shine and personal physical comedy, Garner’s charm, and Hathaway’s strong attempt to make every moment shine.
Outside of these factors, the other actors and actresses either have minimal roles or in the case of Taylor Swift and Jessica Alba, either offer lackluster performances that will have you considering sneaking out the bathroom window if you are not into your date.
